Local treatment with creams, gels and ointments is very effective for fast alleviating of sciatica symptoms: relieve pain and reduce inflammation and swelling. Active ingredients from topically applied medication penetrate through skin to the underlying muscles, nerves and spine disks and directly affect them.

Nutraceutical components made of plants and animals' tissues have been used for effective pain relief medications over thousands years, and they are still widely used in contemporary natural medicine. There are a few very well known ingredients used in most popular formulations.

Arnica Montana.  Sesquiterpenoid lactones and dihydrohelenalin present in it have essential pharmacological benefits, specifically anti-inflammatory and pain reduction properties, it has also been shown to improve the health and conductivity of certain nerves.

Arnica Montana belongs to the family of Asters and is a perennial herbaceous plant. The stem of the plant reaches a height of 1-2 feet, it contains one or two pairs of fairly small leaves. It is flowering in July - August, yellow with an orange tinge flowers look like a daisy. It grows mainly in the mountains, in central and northern Europe. Both flowers and roots of this plant contain a bitter resin active principle arnicin. Sesquiterpenoid lactones and dihydrohelenalin present in it have essential pharmacological benefits, specifically anti-inflammatory and pain reduction properties, it has also been shown to improve the health and conductivity of certain nerves.

Boswellia Serrata resin (Frankincense). As a result of numerous studies, it turned out that they are a previously unknown inhibitor of an anti-inflammatory enzyme called 5-lipoxygenase, and may also have another anti-inflammatory effect. Acids prevent the penetration of leukocytes into the cartilage and fluid contained in the joints reducing inflammatory processes. Also it was found to improve blood supply to the joints and restore integrity of vessels weakened by spasm.

The Boswellia species are undersized tropical evergreen trees with white or pale yellow flowers located in India, Ethiopia, Somalia, and the Arabian Peninsula. They produce a gum resin called olibanum, better known in the western world as frankincense. This resin possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, and analgesic properties, which have a long tradition of use, especially in Ayurvedic medicine. Boswellic acids, the most biologically active components of boswellia resin, recently attracted attention of scientists.

Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera)The therapeutic properties of aloe became known a few thousand years ago. Various parts of the plant were successfully used by ancient Egyptian doctors. Modern science confirms its healing properties. They are explained by a unique complex of vitamins, microelements, amino acids and other compounds that favorably affect various systems of the human body. What is important for the sciatica treatment, the plant's anti-inflammatory effect is due to the salicylic acid existence.

Aloe Vera leaf extract is used for relieve muscular and joint pain, also it improves blood circulation.

The native land of the plant is North-East Africa. It has a little more than half a meter in height and has fleshy, slightly bluish leaves growing from the lower part of the stem.

Now, aloe grows wild in various regions - the Canary Islands, North Africa. Also, the plant can be found on the Arabian Peninsula. The word "aloe" is of Arab origin, it means "bitter", because the leaves of the plant contain bitter-tasting substances. Aloe is a unique plant: by the number of active biological substances contained in it (about 250), it has no equal among the representatives of the flora.

Eucalyptus Globulus (Eucalyptus) leaf oil. The main component of the essential oil (up to 80%) is the terpenic compound cineole or eucalyptol which  eliminates internal and external inflammations, acting both locally and systemically. It has an anti-inflammatory effect, the ability to calm the nervous system.

Eucalyptus is an evergreen tree plant, belongs to the myrtle family. The tree can reach over 200 feet in height. The trunk develops straight, rarely - curved, covered with secretions of gum. From the trunk grow massive leaf plates, standing with an edge. The leaves are always located in the same plane with the branch, so they practically do not cast shadows. Most species are recorded in Tasmania, Australia and New Zealand, there the eucalyptus forms whole forests. Several species are cultivated widely in the tropical and temperate world including Americas. The leaves of the plant contain ethereal eucalyptus oil, from 0.3 to 4.5%. The oil content remains almost the same even when the leaf is dried.
